25 Must See Haunts Announced

Haunted Attraction Magazine's 25 Must See Haunts Announced

Haunted Attraction Magazine and its contributors have traveled across the country visiting haunted attractions and have interviewed haunted house owners about their favorite haunts. We think it’s too difficult to say that one haunt is better than another—after all, each haunt has its own style, pace, and thematic approach. So instead of declaring the haunts we like as the “best,” we’re featuring 25 Haunts that we think provide incredible haunting entertainment, unique events, and fantastic fun. We all have different opinions about what we like in a haunt: some like mood, others like gore; some prefer state-of-the-art animatronics, while others love actors. But we all know that the best measure of success lies in whether or not your customers scream. So, after much research and debate, we now present the 25 Must See Haunts for 2009.

$1 Million Scream Stimulus Package

America’s Best Haunts’ Scare Up $1 Million Scream Stimulus Package
for the Economically-weary

-- 10 top U.S. thrill attractions provide free admission for those in need --

HOUSTON (September 14, 2009) . . . Just when Americans thought it couldn’t get any worse or more horrifying, the economically-weary have had enough. If nine percent unemployment doesn’t make citizens want to scream, then this will. America’s Best Haunts of 2009 have taken a stand to scare up a $1 million “Scream Stimulus” package that is certain to scare the “yell” out of those in need.
The Halloween haunted house season officially opens across America Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26. During opening weekend, 10 top thrill attractions selected one of America’s Best Haunts2009 will provide complimentary tickets to the unemployed and their families, and in certain cities active military families, and those overworked citizens such as firemen and policemen who could use a little stimulus of their own: to scream their heads off!
“In these hard economic times, it is understandable that people are scared,” said Steve Kopelman of America’s Best Haunts. “But screaming and laughter actually relieves stress, and that is part of the fun of haunted houses. Today’s eerie economic challenges provide a similar experience. You go in scared, you courageously face what’s put in front of you, and you feel relief when you make it to the other side. If our country’s top thrill attractions can help Americans in need to face their fears and scream out their frustrations, we take pride in providing some relief,” he said.
America’s Best Haunts estimates more than 40,000 citizens across the United States will benefit from the $1 million in complimentary tickets provided for the “Scream Stimulus.” Participating attractions include: Woods of Terror (Greensboro, NC), Thrillvania (Terrell, TX), ScreamWorld (Houston, TX), The Nest (Phoenix, AZ), The TerrorFest (Columbus, OH), Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia, PA), House of Horrors (Buffalo, NY), Nightmare New England (Litchfield, NH), Bennett’s Curse (Baltimore, MD), and Terror on the Fox (Green Bay, WI).
All locations are providing free admission for the unemployed (must be at least 18 years of age), while The Nest (Phoenix, AZ), Thrillvania (Terrell, TX), ScreamWorld (Houston, TX), The TerrorFest (Columbus, OH) and Woods of Terror (Greensboro, NC) offers will include tickets for firemen, policemen, active military and their families. To qualify, the unemployed must show a current payment stub or other formal state identification that verifies their receipt of unemployment benefits. Firemen, police and military families must present their government issued identification cards.
Complimentary ticket distribution varies by location from one to four admissions per family.

HAUNTWORLD.COM NAMES TOP 31 HAUNTS

The Scariest Locations in America…other than Wall Street

Hauntworld Magazine ranks the scariest places in the country, including lists of the top haunted houses and haunted attractions for each day of October

St. Louis, MO –September 28, 2009 – And you thought the job market was scary? As the nation continues to struggle in one of the worst economies in history, Americans will require a bit more to actually feel fear this Halloween season. In response, Hauntworld Magazine (www.hauntworld.com), the Halloween and haunt industry’s leading trade publication, has announced listings of the most terrifying locations in America, including: the Top 31 Haunted Attractions (one for each day in October), the Top 10 Amusement Park Halloween events and more. These attractions are being recognized for their attention to detail, high-quality special effects, and overall “scare factor”.

The haunted houses and attractions on these lists aren’t your average neighborhood decorations. Each haunted attraction costs up to $1 million to construct, uses professionally trained actors, Hollywood make-up artists and the latest technology in order to transport people into an insane, realistic and horrific environment that rivals any horror movie set. The result is an industry that has grown to generate over $1 BILLION each season, redefining the way people celebrate Halloween.

“Americans have an intrinsic urge to conquer fear and the haunted attractions on these lists are as close as many can get to literally coming face-to-face with true terror,” said Larry Kirchner, Editor-in-Chief of Hauntworld Magazine. “Scary movies and roller coasters are great for a cheap thrill but what these attractions provide their visitors is a sense of exhilaration and an adrenaline rush that can only be felt from live action. These locations are examples of those places in the country you’ll be telling your friends you survived, not visited.”

HAUNTED HOUSE SEASON IS COMING QUICK

HAUNTED HOUSE SEASON FAST APPROACHES

Haunted houses, haunted hayrides, haunted screamparks, Halloween Attractions across the country are getting ready to open for the 2009 Halloween season. Haunted Houses across America are gearing up for the biggest haunt season in history! Many worry about the economy, many worry about people visiting amusement parks, movies, or taking vacations but Haunted Houses and Halloween have proved over and over again that people will not give them up.

No matter the economy, terrorist attacks, or even Y2K, can stop haunt fans from seeking out their favorite haunted houses and getting scared. Haunted Houses and Haunted Attractions seem to be recession proof because they only open one time of the year which is typically September through October.

Haunted Houses have become the new traditional way to celebrate Halloween for teenagers and adults. The haunt crazy started back in the mid-1990's and now many of those people are now well into their 30's and 40's and still going for the scares. Haunted Houses have grown in popularity and crowds have tripled for most haunts over the past five years as they keep older audiences while at the same time finding new ones.

Haunted Houses have also become more and more advanced featuring animation, computer animation, high tech scares, Hollywood movie quality detail, special effects and so much more. Haunted Houses are better than any HORROR MOVIE because they are LIVE, IN YOUR FACE, THEY MAKE YOU THE SCREAM QUEEEN being stalked, chased, from each creepy room to the next gory set haunted houses give people the thrills they can find NO WHERE ELSE!

As the haunted house season nears remember to use the directory here on HauntedHouseAssocaition.org to find haunted houses coast to coast.

Happy Hauntings!
